Farewell for Mazin Sirry

1 Dec 2016 - 13:15

The Mechanobiology Lab gathered over breakfast to bid farewell to Mazin Sirry who returns to Sudan. Mazin joined the lab in 2008 as a Master's student in Biomedical Engineering. His research project was concerned with structural and mechanical aspects of the development of a tissue regenerative vascular graft. After completion of his Master's research early 2010, Mazin commenced with a PhD in Cardiovascular Biomechanics with a topic on computational biomechanics of acute myocardial infarction and its treatment with funding from the Centre for High Performance Computing (CHPC). Based on his excellent doctoral research, Mazin was offered an attractive CHPC postdoctoral fellowship for two years to continue his research in myocardial infarction therapies in the Mechanobiology Lab.

Mazin returns now home to Sudan to take up an academic position at the University of Medical Sciences and Technology in Khartoum. Mazin will however retain a connection to our lab as Honorary Research Associate in UCT's Division of Biomedical Engineering.

We wish Mazin all the best for his future endavours and look very much forward to a fruitful collaboration.
